Replacing Your Garage Door

Replace or garage door repair? How to know you need to replace your garage door
Most homeowners would rather fix anything in the house rather than replace
it. The garage door is no exception. No one wants the extra cost of having
to get a new garage door and have it installed. Some common garage problems
are fixable and you can either do them yourself or have a professional do
it. However, at times, your garage door will give you signs that it is time
to replace it. So, how do you tell whether you should repair the garage
door or it is time to get a new one altogether?

Broken garage door parts
The garage door is used so many times in a year and it is only natural for
it to wear and tear. Although regular maintenance can extend the life of
your garage door, sometimes the damage becomes irreparable. Take for
example you have a wooden garage door. If you notice that it has started to
rot in certain places then it is time to get a new one.
Broken and missing panels on your garage door can easily be fixed if that
particular model is still being manufactured. However, if your garage door
is an older model, you may have to replace it. Replacing your garage door
is also the best option if sections of your garage door are so severely
damaged that they cause the door to not fit properly in its opening.

Garage door can easily be broken into
Your garage door can give anyone access to your home. It, therefore, needs
to be strong and sturdy enough to keep intruders away. If your garage door
can easily be broken into, then it is not safe enough for your family and
your home. Older models of garage doors may not be as secure as the new
models. Replace your old garage door with a new model that comes with
various safety features.
If your garage door has panels that fit snugly in the opening, or the door
can be opened easily without much effort, you may also have to consider
getting a new garage door.

Repeated breakdowns and persistent noise
As mentioned earlier, most garage door problems can be easily fixed.
Several things may cause your garage door to break down. Noise, on the
other hand, can usually be fixed with a little lubrication. However, if you
find yourself constantly repairing your garage door, a replacement may well
be in order. A garage door that has repeated breakdowns is a safety hazard.
The constant repairs also take a toll on your finances. You are much better
off having a new garage door.

Weather damage
You have no control whatsoever over the weather. The weather, be it winter
or summer, can cause irreparable damage to your garage door. The extreme
temperatures during both seasons can negatively affect the working of your
garage door. Storms, in particular, can cause power surges which may end up
damaging the entire garage door system. If your garage door has been
damaged by a storm, repairing it will not work. You only have the option of
getting a new garage door.
